82nd Entry

Reunion 2016
Some arrived on Sunday 15th May, with the majority reporting in on Monday 16th, for the traditional ‘Meet and Greet’ in the bar from midday onwards. It was good as always to see familiar faces and also to welcome back some we hasd not seen for a number of years. The AGM was held at 5pm, for the Chairman to welcome the members, to review the events of the year and to declare the associations positive bank balance. The early evening saw another meet in the bar - it’s becoming a habit - and then we enjoyed an appetising dinner followed by a few well told old stories and many old photographs, over a few more beers. After breakfast on Tuesday 17th, a number of us travelled to The Jet Age Museum at gloucester Airport for a specially arranged opening and tour. We experienced by video the first Trident aircraft ILS blind landing; a Vulcan, Hunter and Knat cockpit and much history of the Gloucester Company. We spent two hours there and it seemed to be enjoyed by all. Others made various trips to local places of interest. We were piped into our formal dinner by Bill Gas a piper from Swansea (ex Navy, but we forgive him for that), commencing at 7pm in the Buckholt Suite, with private bar and great fare and service from the hotel staff. In total 36 attended for dinner, including our ladies who always grace these special occasions. Our Chairman spoke about the entry and individuals since our arrival at Halton some 60 years past and read “Trenchard’s Brats”, a glimpse of Halton culture circa 1956-58, composed by Dave Triggs. then proposed a toast to the 82nd Entry. Also thanking Dave Triggs, George Wade and Bill Boyd for organising what was a truly memeorable weekend. The raffle raised £190.00 towards funds. We said our farewells after breakfast the next morning and went our different ways, until next year at The Hilton East Midlands Airport, Castle Donnington on May 22/23 2017. 2017 Reunion Nigel Bacon has investegated hosting a reunion in the Nottingham area, and recommended the Castle Donnington Hilton situated close to JUnction 24, M1, Derby Road, Derby DE74 2YW. The room rates are similar to the 2016 rates. Dates: Monday & Tuesday 22nd & 23rd May. 2018 Reunion 60th since Graduation Martin Harvey advised that he had, in the last few days stayed at the Holiday Inn, Aylesburyand that it could be a good venue for the 60th since graduation reunion. Martin Harvey and Mike Pond to follow up and report on this to the next Entry Annual Meeting.
